What We Like
Above all things, we love fiction. Novels and short-story collections will grab our attention first. The genre isn't nearly as important to us as the quality of your writing. Tell a good story, and tell it well.
If you've written an unusual sort of book and aren't sure if it's right for Little Feather Books, contact us before submitting a query or sample chapters.
What We Don't Like
While we truly believe there's an audience for every book, your work—and you, as an author—will probably be better served by a different publisher if it falls into one of these categories:
Still Have Questions?
If you are still not sure whether we're the right publisher for your particular book, or you have a specific concern that isn't addressed in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section below, feel free to send us a brief note.
Below are some frequently asked questions regarding the types of books Little Feather Books publishes.
- Do you publish poetry collections?
We prefer prose literature, primarily because we know that form so well. We work very closely with authors to help them produce the best work possible, offering guidance and direction based on our professional experience. We can only do that with the type of work we know best, which happens to be prose. We would encourage you to seek a publisher who will stand firmly behind you and champion your work.
- Do you publish graphic novels or art books?
We do not. Those big, beautiful, full-color books with glossy pages are, unfortunately, very expensive to produce and even more difficult to sell. But don't be discouraged! There are publishers who specialize in art books and are, therefore, better able to handle that type of publication. Visit your library or local bookstore to see which ones publish books that are similar to yours.
- Do you publish children's books?
Unfortunately, this is a specialty market that falls outside our area of expertise. You would be much better served by a publisher that specializes in the children's literature or educational sector.
- I have more than one manuscript ready for submission. Can I send them all to you at once?
The best approach in this case is to send the very best of your manuscripts—just one. If it's great and we accept it for publication, we'll be sure to ask for more. Otherwise, you'd only be competing against yourself. However, feel free to mention in your cover letter that you have other manuscripts available for review.
- Do I need an agent to be considered seriously by Little Feather Books?
Not at all! Little Feather Books was created to serve, first and foremost, new authors, emerging voices, and others who struggle to get that first publication credit. We will happily review unsolicited works by unagented authors.
- Do you charge a reading fee for queries or manuscripts?
- Is Little Feather Books one of those self-publishing outfits that makes the authors pay for printing and marketing their books?
We are not. We are a small, independent publisher, but we operate in much the same way as the larger houses. Authors are offered publishing contracts that meet or exceed the recommendations of the Authors Guild (which exists primarily to advocate for and protect the rights of authors, not publishers), and are paid royalties on the sales of their books.
- Will I finally be able to quit my day job?
